Note on Good Quality Economy Experience in Jet Blue

When you're talking about a $33 flight, it's important to keep in mind that we're talking Jetblue. We're not talking about Spirit Airlines or Frontier. While not the most timely airline (to put it lightly), Jetblue ranked #1 for economy seating for travel experience in TPG's ratings & comfort in Forbes ratings.

This sale w/ points for a solid $.017/pt (.019/pt after rebate if you have the JB+ or Business) in 1st economy example checked.

You can take advantage of $.017/pt whether you have JetBlue points or have a transferable points currency that transfers to JetBlue. I recommend the 1:1 transfers to JetBlue from Chase Ultimate Rewards, Brex, or Citi Thank You if you have the Premier, Chairman, or Prestige if you don't already have some. Transfers are instant from Chase & Citi. Amex is an option but not the best at 250:200 unless a promo is going.

Here's the math on that: ($124.80-$11.12)/6800 pts= $.0167/pt

Factoring in the 10% rebate, it's ($124.80-$11.12)/(6800 pts*.9)=$.0186/pt

By comparison, the TPG valuation for JetBlue is $.013/pt

What was Advertised (as low as $49)

As is sometimes the case, the advertising doesn't show just how good this deal can be and prices I found were even better than advertised for the flight possibilities & the flight+hotel possibilities.

Where to Check Options

The 1st place to check is going to be directly on the Jetblue website. To check some of the best options from your preferred airport(s), I'm not seeing it on the flash sale page at the moment (though that may come later, & it's worth checking). One way to pull them if you don't see a list like one of those above immediately upon going to Jetblue.com is to do a search on that page with a departure from a local airport with Jetblue to anywhere in the US. After the search go back to jetblue.com and they should pop up.

Another option is to do a search from a Jetblue Airport to the United States being flexible on dates using Google, i.e. that $54 flight to Boston from Richmond on 1/2/24 during another sale, though unlike smaller searches, you won't be able to narrow by Jetblue:

There is decent availability at the moment as long as it's within the parameters in the details. The first dates I checked had availability at $33/1 way in the times I wanted. If the first dates you pull don't look ideal to you, check Google flights (i.e. using their Price Graph or date grid options) for different dates after selecting a city pair or do it on the JetBlue website after an initial search by clicking "select new dates" (I prefer JetBlue's option here).

Save More w the Right Credit Card

This sale w/ the JetBlue Plus card or JetBlue Business Card

If you have the JetBlue Plus card or business card, those $33 1 ways in the Richmond example with only a personal item included (though they still have free wifi) turn into $33 including a checked bag (1 bag per person for you and up to 3 people) as well due to the free credit card benefit for checked bags. Inflight drinks and food is 50% off whether you have the JetBlue Plus card, JetBlue Business card, or even the no annual fee JetBlue card.

It doesn't stop there either if you have the credit card as you'll see in the next 2 sections.

Solid Discounted Flights + Hotel Packages

The options available w/ flights + hotel packages can be lower than the cost of the hotel.

Take for example the hotel cost for the 4.6/5 rated Holiday Inn : Orlando-Disney Springs® Area which would typically be $260.90 for 2 nights for a member of IHG.

The same room, including the flight (Blue fare, not blue basic, so a value of $124.80), comes out to only $218.35 (instead of $386).

It gets even better if you have the JetBlue Plus card or JetBlue Business card, as $100 of that will come back as a statement credit through their annual credit if you haven't already used it recently. That's $386 vs $118.35, so you're saving about 70% off.

If you do opt for this particular hotel and are looking to go to Disney, be sure to check to see if the standard Disney affiliate perks apply before booking as those perks are some of the strongest reasons to stay at Disney affiliate properties.

Conclusion

The options with this sale are solid. Even at the Blue Basic level there's still waived change & cancellation fees for bookings made 8/25-10/31/21. For other fares there's no change/cancellation fees as well. We're still impacted by Covid-19, so consider carefully whether or not to travel if it puts you at high risk due to pre-existing conditions or puts others at risk that you are around regularly who have pre-existing conditions. Especially if you have one of the JetBlue annual fee incurring cards, now could be a fantastic time to fly.
